Hi I’m Meg. And I’m a crafthead.

Hi I’m Meg. And I’m a crafthead.

Yes, I’m a crafthead.

I’m in love with yarn and all crafts supplies. But mainly yarn.

I love making anything with my hands AND things I can bring to life on the computer. So I guess also technically with my hands…but you know what I meant.

I don’t have a TV, I have craft supplies to keep me occupied and happy. I don’t know celebrities and I’ve been known to watch art videos while out at the bar. Weird?

I do have a big girl job. I’m a photographer, and I love it.

Most importantly, I’m a single mom to an 11 year old daughter named Monroe. She’s the Roe to my Meg (hence our business is named Meg and Roe Photography).

Photography is amazing, but you know what’s not amazing? Being cold. So every winter, when the temp drops and the shoots die down, I retreat to my crafty world and just play.

I’m ready to share my little craft world.

I wanted to start a blog to share creativity and ideas, find a community, and inspire others. And also my family can’t listen to me talk about fabric flowers anymore so I needed to find somewhere to let out all my thoughts. Which are a lot.

I’m obsessive, they say. An artistic madwoman, if you will. But I guarantee my passion will rub off on you…not in a creepy way.

But I didn’t always know I was such a nut about crafts…

I was always artistic and creative growing up, but I had no idea how much creativity would eventually change my life. I must’ve lost myself somewhere…probably in NYC, where I spent 9 years galavanting around like a maniac without creativity or, really, purpose.

It wasn’t until I moved back to Mass to take care of my gosh darn mental health, that I found knitting. If we become good friends, I’ll tell you where I found it.

When creativity became more than projects.

I loved knitting. I loved learning a new thing and I loved working on, well, blankets…for a very long time. But in that time, I realized how much better I was feeling when my energy went there. It wasn’t just knitting, it was a project. A creative project, nonetheless.

I’m now a firm believer in creative projects for mental health. Projects are something to focus on, to work on, toward, for. They’re fun…fulfilling even. And at the end of your hard work, you have something pretty that you can be proud of. 96% of the time it doesn’t even feel like work. (Except sanding. Sanding always feels like work)

And so I started a blog.

I originally started this blog years ago. I just wanted to share the things that made me happy in hopes that someone out there would also realize how badass creative projects are and start to feel better themselves. Sharing is caring. Honestly, I also wanted other people to geek out with.

The blog was about ALL creative projects. Anything that peeked my interest. Funnily enough, one of them was photography. At first I was only interested because I wanted to get better photos of my masterpieces, but then…people got in the way and the rest is history.

Meg and Roe Photography

When I accidentally got my first client, I didn’t even have a camera. Someone tagged me in a Facebook group post ISO photographer and the girl messaged me. I literally said “sure I can do a shoot this weekend”…and got my very first camera the next day.

Cut to shooting her engagement photos. Her wedding. A newborn session. Family sessions. Her family’s famliy sessions. And actually so many shoots I can’t even remember them all. Let’s just say shoutout to Michaela for jumpstarting this lil career of mine.

(And an extra loud shoutout to a manic episode that lasted long enough for me to realize I actually did love photography)

2026 marks 10 years in business for Meg and Roe Photography. That’s wild.

Turns out, I love making people laugh and relax so we can see their personalities. I love showing parents what it looks like when they have fun with their kids. I love capturing the kiddos being their true selves.

I love my clients, I love creating custom setups for clients, I love shooting, I LOVE editing…but there’s still this nagging feeling that I’m not sharing the thing that makes me most…me.

So here we are.

Sitting at the kitchen table trying to get over the daunting task of writing an intro post.

It’s funny how *this post* has hindered so many future posts written in my head because of perfectionism. So dumb. Yet so real.

Do I have a goal with this blog? Honestly, at this point I just want to post projects that will inspire someone else. Yeah maybe somewhere down the line it could lead to selling handmade items, maybe earn some $ to buy more craft supplies, but for now, I just want to share.

We’re here to talk about the importance of projects.

A lot of projects. Maybe too many to list right now, but they’re coming for ya. Think yarn…lots of yarn. Weaving, painting, photography, woodworking, embroidery, more weaving, resin, sewing, macrame, Cricut, screen printing…

I have a few series planned.

Weaving Wednesdays, Monroe Mondays, Mosaic Madness…to name a few. I’m really excited.

People sometimes say I’m so talented, but I’m no more talented than anyone else.
It’s just about time and resources.
I make the time.
I have purchased the resources.
All of them.

So now I want to show you how you can find your creativity.

Your mind will be boggled at the things you can do and how it will help. Even if you don’t need help. It’ll help. Trust me.

If you need me, you can find me in either my attic workshop, my garage workshop, or soon on some beach photographing clients.

Signed, Meg
Professional crafthead.

Custom Wooden Signs on the South Shore

Custom Wooden Signs on the South Shore

I do signs of all kinds. Lately I’ve been into these farmhouse signs so I thought I’d offer them more widely. Whether you want painted, vinyl, color or just wood…I’m happy to do it.

As of now the idea of Etsy makes me feel stressed so I want to do local for a while. Shipping is just a bummer…but I’m totally willing to do it if someone far away wants something. Pick up in Marshfield is preferred but I’m also ok with meeting for pick up in nearby towns.

This post is in the works, but email me or fill out the form to get the ball rolling and discuss a sign and see a mock up!

What's your dream sign?

Knot Your Grandma’s Macrame : My Journey from beginner to Creative Macrame

Knot Your Grandma’s Macrame : My Journey from beginner to Creative Macrame

IHeartMacrame

Much like many things in my life, it all started with yarn…oh and pinterest. I saw a badass wall hanging and realized it was macrame, not weaving, and lost my mind. I always thought of macrame as so boring and grandma-esque, but the pins I was seeing were inspiring so many visions of wall hangings in my head…I had to start.

By the end of the week…yes, I started a week ago, I blame Pinterest…I had a pretty good start to a birthday gift for my friend…it’s not perfect, but neither am I and I think I’m pretty ok.

Just wait till I add the macrame feathers

Now I want to share anything that might help someone else on the same journey!

I guess my Pinterest board on Macrame is a good start! Go ahead and click on it if you don’t believe me!

First things first : Fundamentals

Start slow, be patient.

If you know anything about my handmade stuff, you know I like COLOR and couldn’t wait to get to the creative stuff. But we all know that ain’t how it works…

so I did the lame thing and started with the fundamentals…traditional knots, and let myself grow from there. Most of the more elaborate designs I was yearning to make (ew that sounds weird…and yet I’m not deleting it) are literally just a bunch of simple knots anyway…

Beginner macrame supplies

Online is really the only option these days, which is hard because I’m a toucher and a photo doesn’t help me much so I needed a little more guidance.

This Melanie girl is GREAT…she explained macrame cord choices that my ADD somehow understood…highly suggest visiting her site. Once she helps you get an idea, you’ll totally get it.

And at the bottom of every post I do, including this one, there will be a box with a list of supplies and links that I love and stand by! I’m also working on a Master List of Essential Crafts Supplies post that will contain all the supplies on my site! Get. Excited.

Tutorials and Sites I found helpful

As you can see from my Pinterest board, I go through phases…and research a lot.

A solid amount of the tutorials and videos I’ve watched were in Spanish, which is muy divertido because I speak Spanish, but a lot of the tutorials were in German or Finnish…but there’s no language barrier looking at a photo so…it’s really not an issue. There were plenty of quite wonderful English speakers sharing their talents, as well.

  • This tutorial is a star ornament, I must’ve pinned around the holidays. Thank gosh for the good visuals because the instructions are written on the graphic…aka they don’t translate when you google translate!
  • The blog HonestlyWTF has been a fav of mine for a long time. Feathers have been a fav of mine. It’s only natural that their tutorial on macrame feathers was magical.
  • When I came across this tutorial from Marching North, I fell in loooove.

I honestly can’t even narrow down out of all my research. My suggestion would be to click any pin I’ve pinned and then enjoy the plethora of related material below it.

All I know is…all that research lead to so much fun 🧶

Getting creative

Once I had a basic handle on the knots, I began to see and understand what was happening in the wall hangings I was looking at.

I have a confession…I’m addicted to yarn. I couldn’t resist. Although I bought plenty of colorful macrame cord, I seem to have a problem doing anything without yarn.

Also, Roe is 6, so every single 1 of her suggestions for any handmade stuff is to make it rainbow. Oh and add a unicorn. I draw the line at unicorn.

I’m having a lot of fun and I hope you stop back in to keep up with whatever I learn and share…it makes me happy when people create!
