Custom Wooden Signs on the South Shore

Custom Wooden Signs on the South Shore

I do signs of all kinds. Lately I’ve been into these farmhouse signs so I thought I’d offer them more widely. Whether you want painted, vinyl, color or just wood…I’m happy to do it.

As of now the idea of Etsy makes me feel stressed so I want to do local for a while. Shipping is just a bummer…but I’m totally willing to do it if someone far away wants something. Pick up in Marshfield is preferred but I’m also ok with meeting for pick up in nearby towns.

This post is in the works, but email me or fill out the form to get the ball rolling and discuss a sign and see a mock up!

What's your dream sign?

Knot Your Grandma’s Macrame : My Journey from beginner to Creative Macrame

Knot Your Grandma’s Macrame : My Journey from beginner to Creative Macrame

IHeartMacrame

Much like many things in my life, it all started with yarn…oh and pinterest. I saw a badass wall hanging and realized it was macrame, not weaving, and lost my mind. I always thought of macrame as so boring and grandma-esque, but the pins I was seeing were inspiring so many visions of wall hangings in my head…I had to start.

By the end of the week…yes, I started a week ago, I blame Pinterest…I had a pretty good start to a birthday gift for my friend…it’s not perfect, but neither am I and I think I’m pretty ok.

Just wait till I add the macrame feathers

Now I want to share anything that might help someone else on the same journey!

I guess my Pinterest board on Macrame is a good start! Go ahead and click on it if you don’t believe me!

First things first : Fundamentals

Start slow, be patient.

If you know anything about my handmade stuff, you know I like COLOR and couldn’t wait to get to the creative stuff. But we all know that ain’t how it works…

so I did the lame thing and started with the fundamentals…traditional knots, and let myself grow from there. Most of the more elaborate designs I was yearning to make (ew that sounds weird…and yet I’m not deleting it) are literally just a bunch of simple knots anyway…

Beginner macrame supplies

Online is really the only option these days, which is hard because I’m a toucher and a photo doesn’t help me much so I needed a little more guidance.

This Melanie girl is GREAT…she explained macrame cord choices that my ADD somehow understood…highly suggest visiting her site. Once she helps you get an idea, you’ll totally get it.

And at the bottom of every post I do, including this one, there will be a box with a list of supplies and links that I love and stand by! I’m also working on a Master List of Essential Crafts Supplies post that will contain all the supplies on my site! Get. Excited.

Tutorials and Sites I found helpful

As you can see from my Pinterest board, I go through phases…and research a lot.

A solid amount of the tutorials and videos I’ve watched were in Spanish, which is muy divertido because I speak Spanish, but a lot of the tutorials were in German or Finnish…but there’s no language barrier looking at a photo so…it’s really not an issue. There were plenty of quite wonderful English speakers sharing their talents, as well.

  • This tutorial is a star ornament, I must’ve pinned around the holidays. Thank gosh for the good visuals because the instructions are written on the graphic…aka they don’t translate when you google translate!
  • The blog HonestlyWTF has been a fav of mine for a long time. Feathers have been a fav of mine. It’s only natural that their tutorial on macrame feathers was magical.
  • When I came across this tutorial from Marching North, I fell in loooove.

I honestly can’t even narrow down out of all my research. My suggestion would be to click any pin I’ve pinned and then enjoy the plethora of related material below it.

All I know is…all that research lead to so much fun 🧶

Getting creative

Once I had a basic handle on the knots, I began to see and understand what was happening in the wall hangings I was looking at.

I have a confession…I’m addicted to yarn. I couldn’t resist. Although I bought plenty of colorful macrame cord, I seem to have a problem doing anything without yarn.

Also, Roe is 6, so every single 1 of her suggestions for any handmade stuff is to make it rainbow. Oh and add a unicorn. I draw the line at unicorn.

I’m having a lot of fun and I hope you stop back in to keep up with whatever I learn and share…it makes me happy when people create!
